Africa Fashion

V&A South Kensington, 2 July 2022 to 16 April 2023

In this exhibition (the V&A’s first to focus on African fashion), over 250 objects explored how the continent’s independence and liberation years from the mid-2oth century onwards reverberated through fashion, music and the arts, and paved the way for the rich fashion scene in Africa today.

I edited all the interpretive text for Africa Fashion, liaising and consulting with numerous peer readers to gather feedback on the exhibition text. Alongside V&A Interpretation and Learning colleagues, I also took part in hosting focus groups with members of the African diasporic community to gather their input and feedback on the exhibition as it developed.

  • "Africa Fashion is long overdue. But it is more than an exhibition. It is a stepping stone towards a more inclusive and equitable V&A that reflects the fullest range of creative endeavour."

    - Christine Checinska, V&A Senior Curator of Africa and Diaspora: Textiles and Fashion, in her foreword to the exhibition
